Hebron – Unlike previous years, the markets of Hebron appeared unusually quiet on the eve of Eid al-Adha, with significantly reduced foot traffic and sluggish commercial activity.
Despite shops and stalls being fully stocked and decorated for the occasion, vendors expressed frustration over weak sales and low turnout.
In interviews, shopkeepers and street vendors attributed the slowdown to harsh economic conditions, including delayed public sector salaries and rising prices. They also cited the ongoing war in Gaza as a major factor dampening the general mood and discouraging festive preparations.
Still, many residents continue to observe the religious aspects of the holiday, viewing it as a spiritual obligation rather than a celebration — a reflection of resilience amid adversity.
